Born in 1975 on the fringes of Dartmoor, England, Sam Lakeman grew up immersed in music. Alongside his brothers, Seth and Sean, he spent his formative years performing on the UK's folk circuit, laying the foundations for a career that has spanned more than three decades. Today he works as a pianist, guitarist, producer, engineer, arranger and composer.

For the past 30 years Sam has worked almost exclusively with his wife, Irish singer Cara Dillon. Together they have built one of the most enduring creative partnerships in contemporary folk music. Sam has produced, co-written and arranged all nine of Cara's albums and continues to perform alongside her on stages around the world. Their work together has been recognised with numerous awards and nominations, including BBC Folk Awards, the Meteor Ireland Music Award and the Hot Press Award, while several albums have reached the top of the Official UK Indie Album Breakers Chart.

As a producer and engineer, Sam has recorded in many of the UK's leading studios, including Abbey Road, Real World, British Grove, RAK, Rockfield and Konk. After signing with Warner Music in 1995 and later Rough Trade Records (2000-2007), Sam and Cara established their own independent label, Charcoal Records, in 2008. Since then he has managed Cara's career while overseeing the release of their recordings as an independent artist.

Alongside his work with Cara, Sam has performed on numerous television and radio broadcasts, contributed to film, television and Disney soundtrack, and produced recordings for other artists. Among these is acclaimed singer-songwriter John Smith, whose three albums produced by Sam have collectively amassed more than 200 million streams.
